Kochi, Nov 15 (UNI) The Postal Department today launched its national initiative to set up Speed Post drop boxes with Kochi Mayor Prof Mercy Williams dropping a letter in a special drop box at the busy Manorama Junction in the city.
Congratulating the Department of Posts, Prof Williams said the move was most timely as with the advent of Information Technology, people believed in fast means of communication.
She also lauded the department for playing a major role in national integration through its stamps.
The Mayor released a special festive stamp pack, sponsored by UTI, by handing it over to Mr Anil Warrier, Chief Manager, UTI, Ernakulam.
Presiding over the function, Post Master General (Central Region) Shobha Koshi said the drop boxes were just one of the initiatives of the department in popularising its services.
The coming months would see the Ernakulam Head Post Office having a Postal Finance Mart where a Financial Advisor would give counsel on investment options, she said.
Special post cards depicting the beautiful scenery and monuments of Kerala would be made available in certain post offices, she said.
On the occasion, the mayor also presented an award of Rs 6,000 to Master Dinesh Kamath, a fourth standard student, who won the second prize in the 'All India Stamp Designing Contest' last year.
