Chandigarh, Nov 15 (UNI) Elegant left hander Daniel Souri Manohar (119) slammed a brilliant century as Hyderabad scored 310 for 7 in 89 overs on the first day of their four-day Ranji Trophy Super League group B match against Punjab at the PCA Stadium here today.
Punjab captain Pankaj Dharmani won the toss and asked Hyderabad to bat first. Manohar and DB Ravi Teja frustrated the Punjab bowlers as the openers put on 128 runs for the first wicket stand. This partnership was broken by Manpreet Gony who bowled Teja (55).
Former Indian opener VVS Laxman joined Manohar and carried the total to 203 with a 78-run association for the second wicket. Left arm slow orthodox spinner Ankur Kakkar had Laxman caught by Inder.
Laxman contributed 38 runs and reached the fence eight times.
Manohar's wicket fell at the total of 256 for 4. Manohar occupied the crease for 298 minutes and faced 215 deliveries. After his departure, Hyderabad started losing wickts at regular intervals.
A Shinde and SM Shoaib were batting on 29 and 7 runs respectively. They have so far contributed 30 valuable runs for the unbroken eighth wicket stand.
Punjab's Ankur Kakkar was the most successful bowlers as he claimed three wickets for 52 runs. Punjab debutant Birinder Singh (1 for 6) got his first Ranji Trophy wicket when he bowled AS Yadav (16). Karan Goel bagged two for 22.
