Final photo electoral rolls to be published on Jan 11

Chennai, Nov 15 (UNI) The final photo electoral rolls after the summary revision with reference to January 1, 2008, as the qualifying date, would be published on January 11 next year, in respect of all Assembly constituencies in Tamil Nadu.

Talking to newspersons here today, after a meeting with the leaders of recognised political parties, State Chief Electoral Officer Naresh Gupta said the draft photo rolls would be published on November 19, and the filing of claims and objections would be accepted till December 8.

A special campaign would be also launched on November 24 and December 2 for including those, who would be completing 18 years as on January 1 next year.

Mr Gupta said a separate schedule had been worked out for Chennai, Tiruvallur and Kancheepuram districts as the size of the electorate in the constituencies of Villivakkam, Tiruvottriyur, Tambaram and Alandur was large and the process of integration of rolls would take more time.

The photo electoral rolls, for the first time, were published during the last revision conducted with reference to January 1, 2007 as the qualifying date. The supplementary list was published in September.

During the ensuing revision, those who were born on or before December 31, 1989, were eligible for inclusion and they could include themselves using e-registration facility.

Meanwhile, the student council of MOP Vaishnav College has initiated ''youth for democracy'', aimed at encouraging the widest participation of city's youth in the democratic electoral process.

After obtaining the list of colleges in the city, information would be disseminated to the students on the procedure and period for enrollment, so that all eligible students in the age group of 18 and above, get enrolled during the revision process.
