New Delhi, Nov 15 (UNI) A Metro train operator was today honoured by Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) for saving the life of a commuter at Seelampur Metro station.
The train operator Kapil Anand on noticing a commuter jumping onto the tracks, showed great presence of mind by applying the special emergency brakes immediately. As a result of his prompt action, he was able to stop the train three to four meters before the person, thus saving the commuter's life.
The commuter, who has been identified as Sajid, aged 22, is a resident of Zafrabad in Seelampur area. He had jumped onto the tracks, just before the arrival of the Metro train at the Seelampur station.
Managing Director E Sreedharan awarded Shri Kapil Anand with a citation and a cash award at a small ceremony.
Anand has performed exemplary duties in the past as well, and has received appreciation on eleven occasions for extending help to Metro commuters in the form of first aid and other assistance from time to time, said Mr Anuj Dayal, DMRC's Chief PRO.
