Porbandar, Gujarat, Nov 15 (UNI) BJP leader and former Gujarat minister Babubhai Bokhiria, prime accused in the Rs 54 crore illegal mining case, was given four days police remand by second additional civil judge of Porbandar today.

Bokhiria was arrested yesterday at the Ahmedabad airport, on his return from UK, and was brought to Porbandar.

The police sought a ten-day remand of Bokhiria but Judge D K Devluk remanded him to four days police custody.

Last October, Saurashtra Chemicals, an industrial unit, had filed a complaint against Babubhai Bokhiria, Bhima Odedara and his son Laxman, and former Congress MP Bharat Odedara, accusing them of carrying out illegal mining activity.

Bhima and Laxman Odedara were arrested in November last year.

Following intervention by the High Court, Bharat Odedara was arrested in September this year.

According to the Mines and Minerals Department estimates, the illegal mining could run to the tune of Rs 200 crore.
