Panaji, Nov 15 (UNI) Leader of the opposition in Goa Assembly Manohar Parrikar today threatened to lodge a criminal complaint against the bigwigs of the State Industries Development Corporation involved in multi-crore Rupee scam of alloting huge chunks of land for setting up Special Economic Zones (SEZs) against laws.
Interacting with media persons, he demanded the Government to order a thorough probe into the land allotments to find out the masterminds behind the scam.
Meanwhile, the senior party legislator Laxmikant Parsekar said that the campaign against SEZs launched in south Goa would be extended to north Goa also from December 2 to bring awareness about the harm which the zones could cause on Goa and Goans.
It might be recalled that the political parties including NCP, coalition partner of the government, besides several NGOs had warned the state against going ahead with the proposed SEZs.
They had even threatened to launch state-wide agitation if the Government failed to freeze all the notified and approved SEZs, which, according to them do more harm than good to Goa and Goans.
The peoples movement against SEZs headed by former minister Mathanhy Saldanha and the SEZ Virodhi Manch, comprising a coalition of several NGOs imcluding the Church, submitted separate memoranda to the Chief Minister in this regard and issued November 17 and 20 as deadlines.
The Chief Minister, however, continued to maintain that he was not in favour of any new SEZ and that he would examine the entire issue threadbare including legal implications, if any, if the government interferes with the already notified SEZs.
The Centre had approved seven SEZs while the state had notified two while proposals for five more had been pending consideration of the Centre.
