Shimla, Nov 15 (UNI) The BJP today urged the Election Commission (EC) to take strict action against the Himachal Pradesh Horticulture Department director for failing to comply with its earlier orders and against an employee leader for violating the model code of conduct.

The EC had directed the Horticulture Department Director Gurdev Singh to take action against non gazetted employee leader Laxi Singh Machhan following a complaint by the BJP against him on May 27, earlier this year, for violating the code of conduct by seeking votes for Congress candidate during the Hamirpur Lok Sabha by-polls.

However, following sustained pressure mounted on Mr. Singh by the state government, no action was taken against Mr Machan, who was continuing to violate the code, party secretary H N Kashyap said in his complaint to the EC.

He said no action had been taken against the employee leader since he belonged to the chief minister's assembly constituency of Rohru and was being shielded by the Chief Minister.

Since no government employee could align with a political party nor openly announce to campaign for a particular party, strict action should be taken against Mr Machan for aligning with the Congress and against Mr Singh for not taking on the EC's orders, Mr.

Kashyap added.
