Srinagar, Nov 15 (UNI) In the first ever seizure in Jammu and Kashmir, troops seized a Chinese Anti-Tank gun and foiled yet another Incursion bid from across the Line of Control (LoC) when they gunned down two infiltrators today.
A defence spokesman said troops of 7 Garhwal Rifles killed two infiltrators near the Line of Control (LoC) in Machhil sector of Kupwara district in north Kashmir today.
Two AK rifles and five AK magazines were seized from the slain militants, he said and added that the operation was in progress when report last came in.
Based on a specific information, troops of 31 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) launched a search operation at Haphurda woods and seized a Chinese 82 mm smooth bore breech-loaded, tripod-mounted, anti-tank recoilless gun.
He said the weapon is most powerful in terms of lethality, and the first such seizure in recent times.
The weapon is in a serviceable condition, was likely to be used to target army convoys and vehicles in Kashmir valley.
He said along with this lethal weapon, an assortment of 700 PIKA rounds, 300 AK-47 rounds, 29 Under Barrel Grenade Launcher grenades, four remote control IED boxes, ten AK-47 magazines and two sniper magazines were also seized.
He said troops of 10 PARA gunned down a militant during a gun-battle in Bandipora district. The encounter was still on, when reports last came in.
Elsehwere in the state, two militants were among three people killed and another apprehended while a Hizbul Mujahideen ultra surrendered during the past 24 hours.
