Transfer of Commissioner sparks widespread protests

Mysore, Nov 14 (UNI) Transfer of City Corporation and Mysore Urban Development Authority (MUDA) Commissioner P Manivannan has sparked widespread protests by various organisations, demanding immediate cancellation of the transfer.

Demonstrations and protest processions were held in the city against the new BJP-led coalition government's action in this regard.

'Association of Concern and Informed Citizens of Mysore' (ACICM) which staged a demonstration before the City Corporation Office had given a call for Mysore Bandh' on November 16, demanding retention of Mr Manivannan for at least one more year.

Various organisations called upon the people of Mysore, citizens organisations, NGOs and various sections of the society to actively participate in the bandh in the interest of the city.

The protestors also submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner.

They shouted slogans against the Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa, BJP and its Corporators and land mafia for transfer of the efficient officer.

Mr Manivannan had taken charge of MUDA only on August 24 and also City Corporation Commissioner later. Recently, he had launched the implementation of 'JNNURM Projects' in the city and taken up various measures for overall development of the city.
