New Delhi, Nov 14 (UNI) The Supreme Court today directed the Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission Chairman, Ram Sewak Yadav, and UP Education Secretary, Pankaj Agrawal, to be personally present in the court on November 16.
A bench comprising Justices S B Sinha and Lokeshwar Singh Panta issued the directions after the Uttar Pradesh Government again tried to mislead the court by not giving it the correct number of vacancies in the State Education Department.
Petitioners Anil Kumar Sahi and others contended before the court that there were more than 400 vacancies and the government was deliberately not appointing the petitioners who had qualified in the Provincial Educational Services(PES) examinations in the year 1997 and 1999.
The apex court had directed the State government on August 5, 2003 to appoint all 372 candidates who had qualified in three batches but the directions of the court were not complied with.
Two hundred and fifty candidates are still awaiting their appointments, despite the direction of the court inspite of the fact that there are more than 400 vacancies in the department.
