Vijayawada, Nov 14 (UNI) Sai Srinivas from Vijayawada will represent India in the '12-day World Youth (U-18) Chess Championship' begining in Turkey from November 18.
Srinivas's father Dasari Prasad told UNI here today that about 30 players from India would participate in the championship to be held in the age groups, U-8, U-10, U-12, U-14, U-16 and U-18.
Srinivas, though having no sponsors, participated in many World, Asian and Commonwealth chess tournaments earlier and won seven international medals, including one gold, five silver and one bronze.
However, the Centre would bear his entire expenditure for the Turkey championship, Mr Prasad added.
He said sponsors should come forward and help Srinivas, having an Elo rating of 2,302 points. He will take atleast two to three years to become a Grand Master as he was unable to participate in international events and undergo training due to financial constraints. He was only practicing at home on his personal computer.
Srinivas, studying in class XII in a private college, would next play in 'Commonwealth Chess Championship' to be held in New Delhi from December two to 12, Mr Prasad said.
