Hyderabad, Nov 14 (UNI) India's aluminium production is likely to touch 14 million tonnes as Rs one lakh crore investment is planned over the next five years, the Aluminium Association of India (AAI) said today.

The expansion from India's current 1.1 MT production level would create ten million jobs, both direct and indirect, the AAI told the media ahead of the fifth International Conference on Aluminium, INCAL-2007, beginning here from November 21.

The three-day INCAL 2007 was organised by the AAI under the aegis of the Ministry of Mines, Government of India.

The conference was sponsored by Hindalco, Nalco and Vedanta and supported by the Aluminium Association of the US, Australian Aluminium Council and International Aluminium Institute of the UK.

From the technical presentations point of view, INCAL 2007 shows a slight difference from the previous conferences. Experts in different fields from India and abroad had been invited to present papers.

''Of the speakers, 36 are from abroad - from the US, Canada, Australia, the UK, Germany, the Netherlands, Italy, Belgium, Dubai, Norway, Switzerland, France and Spain. The Indian speakers are drawn from aluminium industry, R and D institutions and government organisations,'' Presentations Committee (Technical Committee) Chairman D H Sastry told media here.

The speakers would review the global scenario in the chosen topic and project a vision for the future. The presentations would cover almost all the major areas of current interest to Aluminium industry.

The number of papers was restricted to 56 (as against about 90 in previous conferences) to have a more meaningful interaction with the speaker and provide for intensive discussion with 12 Plenary lecturers in different fields and on 33 invited papers in marketing, applications, technology (process and equipment), recycling, environment and energy.
