Panova and Kolesnichenko enter quarter-finals

Pune, Nov 14 (UNI) Unseeded Russian Alexendra Panova and 16-year-old Uzbekistani qualifier Alexendra Kolesnichenko upset third seeded Neha Uberoi and fifth seeded Nina Bratchikova of Russia today to enter into the quarter-final stage of the ,000 NECC ITF women's tennis championships, being played at the Deccan Gymkhana tennis courts here.

India's veteran players, Rushmi Chakravarthy and eight seed Isha Lakhani also moved into the last eight stage. The other players to move into the quarter finals include Korea's Kyung Yee Che, Hongkong's Ling Zhang, second seeded Sandy Gumulya and sixth seeded Silvia Disderi of Italy.

In the pre quarter final played today, the 670 ranked Panova hit 8 aces against 13 double faults by Neha uberoi to record a 7-6 (7-2), 7-5 win over the third seeded Uberoi while the upcoming Uzbeki qualifier 16 year old Kolesnichenko upset fifth seeded Nina Bratchikova of Russia 7-6(8-6),6-3.

It was an easy outing for the two Indians in fray, while Chakravarthy hit out Parija Maloo 6-2, 6-4, Isha Lakhani stopped the winning run of Sonal Phadke winning 6-3, 6-1 to set a fight against themselves.

Qualifier Korean Chae Kyung-Yee outplayed Wild card entrant Parul Goswami 6-0, 7-6(7-4), while Ling Zhang of Hongkong won by default against giant Killer Katerina Paulinina of Ukraine who conceded her match at 6-3, 3-0.

Sixth seeded Silvia Disderi of Italy will clash with second seeded Sandy Gumulya of Indonesia in the other quarter final.

Gumulya outplayed Indian Sandhya Nagraj 6-2, 6-3, while Disderi thrashed Julia Parasyuk of Russia 6-3, 6-1.
