Pakistan police arrests Imran Khan
Islamabad, Nov 14: Cricketer-turned politician Imran Khan was today arrested in Lahore after he emerged from hiding and reached Punjab University to lead students' movement against imposition of emergency rule in the country.
Khan had gone into hiding on November 3 immediately after President Pervez Musharraf clamped state of emergency and issued provisional constitutional order.
He held students of Islami Jamiat Tuleba (the student wing of Jamat-e-Islami) responsible for his arrest.
Witnesses said that a group of students handed over Khan to police despite a firm assurance earlier by their university fellows that they would protect him on arrival there.
''These students actually helped local administration to arrest Khan,'' a witness said.
Local media quoted Khan as saying that he wanted to mobilise the students and this objective has been achieved.
