Srinagar, Nov 14 (UNI) National Conference (NC) president Omar Abdullah strongly condemned the killing of party's Municipal Councillor Ghulam Nabi Wani by unidentified gunmen here today.
In a statement, he described the killing as a barbaric act.
Mr Abdullah urged the authorities concerned to investigate the murder so that the killers could be brought to book.
The NC chief, who was in Jammu, air-dashed to Srinagar, to visit the residence of the deceased councilor and express sympathies with the bereaved family.
NC general secretary Sheikh Nazir Ahmed, provincial president Ajay Sadhotra, senior vice president Rattan Lal Gupta, MLC Devender Singh Rana expressed their condolence to the bereaved family.
Condemning the broad day light killing, the party leaders came down heavily on the state government for its failure to provide adequate security cover to the political leaders in the state.
