More than 1500 competitors to participate in Nat Karate tourney

Chennai, Nov 14 (UNI) More than 1500 competitors from across the country will vie for honours in the 21st AIKF National Karate Championship to be held here from tomorrow.

Tamil Nadu Sports Karate-Do Association President and All India Karate-Do Federation Acting President ''Karate'' R Thiagarajan told UNI here today that so far 23 states have confirmed their entries for the four-day event.

He said Kata and Kumite events would be held for sub-junior and junior boys and girls and senior men and women.

Chennai would be hosting the event after a gap of one year.

Madhya Pradesh won the overall championship in the last edition held at Bangalore, he added.

Mr Thiagarajan said the finals would be held on November 18.

AIKF Patron Karti P Chidambaram would be chief guest and distribute the prizes to the winners.

Mr M Kanaharaj would be the Technical Director of the tournament.

Mr Thiagarajan said free boarding and lodging would be given to the officials and the competitors.
