Srinagar, Nov 14 (UNI) The Jammu and Kashmir government has decided to introduce group insurance for 17 lakh school students and Jawaharlal Nehru and Maulana Azad awards in the state.
This was announced by Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad at a function organised on the 118th birth anniversary of the country's first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru at Sher-e-Kashmir International Convention Complex (SKICC) here today.
He said children from poor families are not getting proper treatment.
Children should not suffer because of lack of treatment in the state, he said, adding that the children are an asset to our future and it is the duty of everyone to look after them properly.
He said if our children will be weak, our future will also be weak.
Mr Azad said the government will introduce Group Insurance for all the 17 lakh students of the state which will help them to get proper medical treatment.
He announced that one first prize of Rs one lakh each will be paid to students who will score first positions in the competition on Pandit Nehru and Maulana Azad from next year.
The students scoring second position will be paid Rs 50,000 and there will be two awards of Rs 25,000 each for third position.
The awardees will be selected on the same pattern as was done in the competition on Mahatama Gandhi, he said.
Hundreds of students from different schools today participated in the function organised on the bank of Dal Lake.
