Panaji, Nov 14 (UNI) The Goa Pradesh Congress Committee has decided to constitute a committee, headed by its president Francisco Sardinha (MP), to study the implications of proposed Special Economic Zones (SEZs) in the state amid stiff opposition to their establishment by various groups including NGOs.

Disclosing this to mediapersons here today in presence of Chief Minister Digambar Kamat, Mr Sardinha said the committee would submit its recommendations to the government in a month.

Alleging that the idea of SEZs was mooted by the BJP government in the year 2003, Mr Sardinha said the party was trying to ''politicise'' the issue for political expediency now that the party was not in power.

Meanwhile, the Chief Minister made it clear that the government was not in favour of any SEZ, other than those already approved and notified and that it would study the implications of the SEZs in the light of the Opposition even by the NCP coalition partner.
