Convenient 'petha' fetching good returns to farmers

Varanasi, Nov 14 (UNI) Record breaking production of 'petha' in Harhua Development Block of the city this year has not only brought back smiles on the faces of farmers, but has also fetched them good returns.

Setting aside paddy and wheat production, the smart farmers opted for the convenient 'petha' production this year.

'Petha,' which carry huge demand for sweetmeats, is easy to produce because of its 'multi-speciality.' Not only can it be grown in places receiving less rainfall in a short period, but also has lesser input cost.

The 'petha' seeds are easily available at an affordable price and fetch gains of Rs 10,000 per acre to the farmers.

The production procedure is easy, do not require any special manure and pesticides.

Each 'petha' weigh around 10 to 15 kg and is sold at Rs 100 per quintal in the market.

Widely used for making sweets, 'petha' sweets fulfill domestic and international demand.

Meanwhile, agricultural experts have predicted a bright future in 'petha production' for the farmers.
