State Director General of Police Vikram Singh has directed the respective Inspectors General of Police(IGs) and Deputy Inspectors General of Police(DIGs) to take necessary action in this regard.
The proposed cells would also stop misuse of stolen or missing cell phones to make ransom and mischevious calls by miscreants.
The step was taken following encouraging results of one such cell set up in Lucknow in 2006 as part of a work plan. The Lucknow police mobile phone recovery cell has helped trace several cell phones in the recent past.
The DGP has asked the officials to keep in regular contact with the service providers of the area for the necessary information and other details for tracing lost phone sets, police officials said here.
