Schenker India sees warehousing as next area of growth

New Delhi, Nov 13 (UNI) Schenker India Pvt Ltd, the Indian arm of Schenker DB Logistics, is eyeing warehousing as its next area of growth and is set to open five facilities in another one year.

''At present we have 28 warehousing facilities in the country and by 2008-end we plan to come up with five more,''company's Managing Director Christin Nebel told reporters yesterday.

The Germany-based company plans to entail a significant portion of Rs 30 crore on these facilities.

''We have earmarked Rs 30 crore for expansion in India in 2008 and a chunk of this money will be spent in the warehousing facilities,'' Mr Nebel said.

Schenker India Pvt Ltd plans to open these facilities in the metropolis, including Kolkata and Delhi.

''We have identified the land in Kolkata and by the year-end we will come up with a facility here,'' he said.

As part of its expansion, the company would also be investing in the IT infrastructure and human resources.

Schenker India Pvt Ltd is also mulling to pump in Rs 20 billion over the three years for its expansion in India.

Schenker DB Logistics and Bax Global recently announced their merger, making the united firm one, Schenker India Pvt Ltd, one of the largest logistics and supply chain management company in the world.

Schenkar DB Logistics, a leading provider of integrated logistic services offering land operations, air and ocean freight as well as logistic solutions, has sales of 8.9 billion euros and has headcount of 42,000 people with 11,000 offices across the globe.
