SC to hear plea on increasing SC seats in HP on Nov 22
New Delhi, Nov 13 (UNI) The Supreme Court today fixed November 22 for hearing of a petition seeking directions to the Election Commission to increase the number of reserved Assembly constituencies for Scheduled Castes from 16 to 17 in Himachal Pradesh as per the recommendations of the Delimitation Commission .
Petitioner Virender Kumar mentioned his petition before the bench comprising Chief Justice K G Balakrishnan and Justice R V Raveendran for urgent hearing as the campaign for 62 Assembly consituencies is due to begin on November 26 and the polling will take place on December 19 and his petition shall become infructuous as once the campaigning starts, court can not interfere in the matter.
The apex court keeping in view the urgency of the matter, fixed November 22 for hearing of the case. Polling for three tribal seats in Himachal Pradesh is due to take place tomorrow .
