Punjab allocates Rs 7,780 cr for paddy procurement

Chandigarh, Nov 13 (UNI) The Punjab government has allocated Rs 7,780.90 crore to six government agencies to ensure timely payment to the farmers for paddy being procured by them.

The farmers have already been paid Rs 7,241.57 crore for paddy procured by these agencies till Sunday, an official spokesman said.

The government agencies and private millers procured more than 124.39 lakh tonnes of paddy till Monday evening, he said.

Out of the total procurement, government agencies share stood at 101.93 tonnes of paddy till date whereas millers had lifted 22.45 lakh tonnes paddy.

PUNGRAIN had procured 26.23 lakh tonnes of paddy whereas MARKFED procured 23.95 lakh tonnes. PUNSUP lifted 25.84 lakh tonnes, PSWC procured 13.44 tonnes whereas PAIC purchased 11.14 lakh tonnes.

The central government agency FCI had been able to procure 1.31 lakh tonnes of paddy.

The spokesman said Ludhiana district, with 16.46 lakh tonnes of procurement, was leading in procurement operations whereas Sangrur district, with 15.76 lakh tonnes, was at the second slot. Patiala, with 12.92 lakh tonnes of procurement, ranked at the third position.
