Chandigarh, Nov 13 (UNI) The Chandigarh Housing Board has planned to construct 25,728 small flats in eight locations to make Chandigarh the first slum free city in India.

This is part of the drive initiated by Chandigarh Administrator, General (Retd) S F Rodrigues to improve the quality of life of slum dwellers by rehabilitating them in settlements equipped with basic civic amenities.

This would not only provide dignified and hygienic living conditions to the people living in slums but also enable the administration to plan and develop the 192 acres of land occupied by slum dwellers in the city.

Gen Rodrigues has asked the Chandigarh Housing Board to speed up the work on the project and complete the scheme under a time bound schedule.
