Noted Kathakali musician Sankaran Embranthiri passes away

Kochi, Nov 13 (UNI) Noted Kathakali musician Sankaran Embranthiri passed away at Aluva near here this morning. He was 63.

He is survived by his wife and two daughters.

Family sources said that he was taken to a local hospital after complaining of breathlessness and uneasiness this morning. He died shortly after in the hospital.

The cremation is expected to take place this evening after the arrival of one of his daughters from abroad.

A renowned Kathakali musician, who had also served as a teacher at the FACT Kathakali School for 25 years, Sankaran had continued to give performances even after undergoing a renal transplant in 2003.

He was a recipient of several awards including the Swathi Puraskaram awarded by the state government.
