No proposal to start new agriculture research centre in Telangana

Hyderabad, Nov 13 (UNI) Maintaining that there was no proposal to start a new Agricultural Research Centre in Telangana region, Andhra Pradesh Agriculture Minister N Raghuveera Reddy today said the existing Research centres in the state would be strengthened instead.

Replying to a question by R Venkata Rama Reddy and others in the Legislative Council during Question Hour, he said there were 61 agricultural research centres in the state and all these centres were working as per the needs. There was a proposal to strengthen all these centres, he added.

There were 27 research centres in Andhra region, 21 in Telangana region and 13 in Rayalaseema, he said, adding there were research stations for every crop in the state.

The members demanded that some more research stations be opened in Nizamabad and Karimnagar districts specially for turmeric crops.

To another question, the Minister said 6.5 lakh acres were brought under drip-irrigation and some more agricultural lands would be brought.
