Kaneria and Mohd Sami to be in Pak squad for Test series

By Staff

Lahore, Nov 13(UNI) Leg-spinner Danish Kaneria, fast bowler Mohammad Sami and batsman Faisal Iqbal will be joining in the Pakistan team for the three test series against India.

The trio will replace Imran Nazir,Fawad Alam and Rao Ifthikhar who are currently in India for the one day series and will return home after the last one dayer to be played in Jaipur on November 18.

Kaneria's selection was a foregone conclusion but Sami is lucky to find a place as he will be coming in place of injured Mohd Asif.

Sami has displayed good form in the domestic season, having taken 17 wickets, and is a strong contender for a place in the Test side in view of Mohammad Asif's elbow injury.

Asif is still doubtful to be fit in time for the first Test in New Delhi from November 22, and the team managment need a good fast bowler to support Shoaib Akhtar and Umar Gul.

Fawad Alam and Imran Nazir have not played in first three one-dayers of the ongoing five-match series and are unlikely to find place in next two, while Rao Iftikhar has not been in his best form.

Meanwhile, the media quoted Pakistan Cricket Board's Chief Executive Officer Shafqat Naghmi as saying that the board was awaiting feedback from an Australian sports medicine specialist on Asif's injury.

"One of the local specialists has already recommended surgery for his elbow problem. He will need to make a lot of effort to be ready for the Test series as his injury is such we can't put a time frame on when it will heal." UNI XC HSB AB HS1700
