High profile gamblers arrested in Kashmir

Srinagar, Nov 13 (UNI) The Jammu and Kashmir Police today claimed to have arrested ten high profile gamblers during a raid on a hotel at Lal Chowk here.

Kothi Bagh Station House Officer (SHO) said the police raided Hotel City Centre at Lal Chowk here following specific information.

At least ten gamblers, including the Hotel owner, few senior Jammu and Kashmir Bank officials, an engineer and some contractors, were arrested during the raid, he added.

The SHO said Rs 1,21,300 kept as stake money and ten mobile phones were also seized from the spot.

The arrested have been identified as Hotel owner Mohammad Saleem Bhandari, Jammu and Kashmir Bank Managers Mushtaq Ahmed Kaskar (Zakoora branch), Kaleem-ullah Lala (Nowhatta branch), Illaqaie Dehati Bank manager Mohammad Akhtar Haroon, contractors Fayaz Ahmad Ahanger, Bashir Ahmad Mir, Ashiq Hussain Bhat and Hilal Ahmad Khan, Junior Engineer Mohammad Amin Ganai and senior forester Mohammad Amin Bhat, he added.

The SHO said a case has been registered in this regard and a charge-sheet produced in the court of the City Magistrate, Srinagar.
