Govt committed to implement land pooling scheme in Punjab : Badal

Chandigarh, Nov 13 (UNI) Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal today reiterated his government's commitment to implement the land pooling scheme on fresh acquisitions in the state.

The Chief Minister gave this assurance during a meeting with farmers of the ''Kissan Bachao Sangarash Committee'' here.

It was informed in the meeting that officers of the Local Government and PUDA visited Gujarat to study the pattern of land pooling prevalent there for the past 23 years.

It was felt that the scheme based on Gujarat pattern would have to be modified to suit the peculiar requirements in Punjab.

A Committee of farmers and officers, headed by the Chief Secretary, was constituted to find out ways and means to implement the scheme in Punjab. The Committee has been asked to submit its report at the earliest.

Mr Badal said the State Government was committed to ensure welfare and prosperity of farmers and would not acquire land that adversely affect the members of farming Community.

The Chief Minister said the Government would keep in mind the interests of allottees in the formulation of policy.

Prominent amongst others who attended the meeting included Cooperation Minister Kanwaljit Singh, Chief Minister's Media Advisor Harcharan Bains and Chief Secretary R I Singh.
