Chennai, Nov 13 (UNI) Taking serious note of the factionalism in the Tamil Nadu unit of the Congress that led to the stabbing of State Youth Congress chief Mayura S Jayakumar, the All India Congress Committee (AICC) has deputed a fact-finding team to study the situation and recommend action against those behind the attack.

Congress high command observer for Tamil Nadu Arunkumar arrived here today along with All India Youth Congress general secretary Chandan Kumar Yadav and secretary Deepti Mary Varghese to get first hand information about the attack.

After meeting Union Minister G K Vasan loyalist Jayakumar, recuperating from the stab injury at a city hospital, and TNCC president M Krishnaswamy, who too was convalescing after he was stabbed by a mob two weeks ago, the team was holding talks with the Congress leaders at the party headquarters Sathyamurthy Bhavan.

The team would elicit their views and identify the ''vested interests'' that were instrumental in the attack on Jayakumar, party sources said.

While Jayakumar alleged that Mr Krishnaswamy's son and Cheyyar MLA Dr M K Vishnu Prasad was behind the attack, the latter stoutly denied the charge.

Dr Vishnu Prasad, in turn, blamed Mr Vasan for harbouring ill-will against him and being hell-bent on finishing him.

The sources said AICC General Secretary Rahul Gandhi too had taken serious note of the attack and had expressed his displeasure over the November 11 incident. He had reportedly told the AICC to take disciplinary action against those involved in it.

After meeting various leaders, the team would submit its report to the party high command with its recommendations.
