Kolkata, Nov 13 (UNI) Veteran Congress leader Somen Mitra today appealed to Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee to be united and form an anti-CPI(M) secular democratic alliance in the state.

Talking to newspersons here, Mr Mitra said the situation was now alarming in Nandigram and wondered how a government expressed "satisfaction" after recapturing the Nandigram villages.

He alleged that earlier the ruling Left Front used to target political parties, but now they were targetting the general people and the intellectuals.

He said it was high time that the entire Opposition be united to save democracy and give a befitting reply to the ruling party in the state.

" We are urging Ms Banerjee and other anti-CPI(M) parties to do away with political reservations and form a secular democratic alliance to dislodge the ruling Front from power, " he stated.

CLP leader Manas Bhuniya said the people of Nandigram had been deprived of their fundamental and democratic rights.

" We have sent a letter to Speaker Hasim Abdul Halim for summoning special emergency Assembly session to take up for discussion the grave situation in Nandigram and necessary measures to protect and rehabilitate the people of the area, " he said.
