Nandigram, Nov 13 (UNI) BJP leader L K Advani, heading a nine-member NDA team, reached Nandigram unhindered this morning to assess the situation in the violence-scarred area.
Security measures had been beefed up across the route from Tamluk, where the leader of Opposition in Parliament spoke to the injured in the hospital and inquired about the situation.
Trinamool Congress leader Mukul Ray, who accompanied Mr Advani, translated to him the reactions and experiences of the patients.
Mr Advani halted at various places in Gokulnagar, Tengua and Sonachura to talk to the aggrieved people.
''We want peace to be restored in Nandigram. Several leaders come here to see us and return but till now nothing has changed. But this time please ensure that we are safe here,'' one of the villagers told the senior BJP leader.
Mr Advani said, ''I will raise the matter in Parliament. Besides, this evening I will meet West Bengal Governor Gopal Krishna Gandhi in Kolkata and discuss the situation with him.'' The delegation included Ms Sushma Swaraj and Mr S S Ahluwalia (BJP), Mr Anant Geete (Shiv Sena), Mr Sukhbir Singh Badal (Akali Dal), Mr Sharad Yadav (Janata Dal-United), Mr B K Tripathi (Biju Janata Dal) and Mr Chandan Mitra (Independent).
Meanwhile, three bodies with bullet injuries were seen floating in the Rasulpur canal near Marichda this morning.
Bhumi Ucched Pratirodh Committee (BUPC) convener Sisir Adhikary alleged that the bodies were those of BUPC supporters gunned down by CPI(M) activists during a silent procession in Nandigram.
