Vaiko, Nedumaran held for Pro-LTTE rally
Chennai, Nov 12 (UNI) MDMK General Secretary Vaiko, Tamil Nationalist Movement Leader P Nedumaran and about 350 activists were arrested today when they attempted take out a rally, defying prohibitory orders, to condemn the killing of LTTE political wing leader S P Thamilselvan by the Sri Lankan Air Force, on October 2.
The rally was organised under the banner of Coordination Committee of Supporters of Tamil Eelam Liberation, of which Mr Nedumaran is the convener.
Police sources said in all 350 people, including Mr Vaiko and Mr Nedumaran-- both staunch supporters of the banned LTTE-- were arrested near Munroe Statue, where they assembled for the rally this evening.
All the arrested were taken to Rajarathinam Stadium in Egmore and were later remanded in judicial custody by a Magistrate.
Police had declined permission for the rally, but both the leaders had declared that they would defy the prohibitory orders.
