RBI to issue new Rs 2 coins

The
Reserve
Bank
of
India
will
shortly
put
into
circulation
new
coins
of
Rs
two,
commemorating
the
platinum
jubilee
of
the
Indian
Air
Force.
The new ferric stainless steel coin is divided into three parts with two horizontal lines. The left centre portion will bear the 'Lion Capitol' of Ashoka Pillar with the legend 'Satyamev Jayate' inscribed below, and the right centre portion denominational value '2' in international numerals, a RBI statement said.
The face of the coin containing the logo signifies the growth of the IAF over the last 75 years of glorious service, symbolically represented through the depiction of the first fighter aircraft, Wapiti, and the latest multi-role combat aircraft, in the centre, the statement added.
The coin is a legal tender as provided in the Coinage Act, 1906, the existing two rupee coin in circulation will also continue to be legal tender, the statement said.
