Police bust a cricket betting ring in Phagwara

Phagwara, Nov 12 (UNI) Police has bust a ''cricket betting ring'' and seized one mini telephone exchange, recording system, mike system, 16 mobile phones, mobile phone recorder, one Honda generator, remote receiver, a sky dish, one colour tv and a register with entries of Rs 41 lakh of 'Satta' (betting) on third India-Pakistan Match, from their Mehtan residence this evening.

Phagwara DSP, HPS Khakh said here today that police got a vital clue that one Jalandhar resident Rohit Kumar had rented a house at nearby village Mehtan and was running the betting racket with his other accomplices Sunny and Lucky of Amritsar.

The DSP said these three accused known locally as 'Satta Kings' and their fourth accomplice Anoop Singh were operating 'Satta' on India-Pakistan Matches in their house and shop of Channi Music Centre at local Chadha Market.

DSP Khakh said that on an information, police raided the shop, but all the accused along with huge currency managed to escape, but police succeeded in seizing three attache cases along with these goods from their premises.

Police has registered a case under various sections like 420, 471, 71, Information Technology Act, Telegrams Act and Gambling Act against the accused, the DSP said.

Police parties have been dispatched to nab the accused and several other important disclosures were now expected, Mr Khakh said.
