Bangalore, Nov 12: Baratiya Janata Party President Rajnath Singh today demanded the dismissal of West Bengal Government for its failure to protect the people in Nandigram.

Speaking to newspersons here, Mr Singh, who was here to attend the swearing-in ceremony of his party leader B S Yeddyurappa as the Chief Minister of Karnataka, alleged that constitutional machinery had collapsed in that state.

The CPM government had abdicated all its responsibilities to protect the constitution and the people. What the state government did in Nandigram symbolised 'dictatorship and tyranny,' he remarked.

He condemned the atrocities on innocent people in Nandigram and said while CPM cadres killed people, West Bengal police stood a mute spectators and over 20,000 people were without any shelter and relief.

The country was drifting towards mid-term poll, he added.
