Shimla, Nov 12 (UNI) The BJP unit of Himachal Pradesh today said the names of the candidates for the remaining 65 Assembly constituencies, which go to the polls in the second phase on December 19, will be cleared by the party's central election committee (CEC) by November 23.
''The CEC will meet in Delhi by November 23, one day here or there, to finalise the names of the candidates for the remaining 65 Assembly constituencies,'' state party in charge Satpal Jain said in a press conference here.
He said the names would be forwarded to the CEC by the state election committee (SEC), which would meet any day after the formal launching of the party's campaign in the form of a rally to be addressed by the party president Rajnath Singh at Mandi on November 18.
Replying to a question whether former prime minister and senior party leader Atal Bihari Vajpayee would campaign in the state for the party candidates, Mr Jain said though he would like to do so, but his falling health would not permit him to undertake a tour of the hill state.
He said almost all senior leaders including former home minister L K Advani, Sushma Swaraj, Arun Jaitley and others would campaign in favour of the party candidates for the second phase of polling.
Referring to the ongoing campaigning for the three tribal seats of Kinnuar, Lahaul Spiti and Bharmaur in the state, he claimed that the BJP was receiving overwhelming support from the masses who would help the party in wresting these seats from the Congress.
Asserting that while the party rallies were well attended as against the Congress, which was facing the ire of the people for pursuing anti-people policies, Mr Jain said party candidates would win with handsome margins.
