Kozhikode, Nov 12 (UNI) More foreign airlines will soon operate services from the Karippur International Airport, near here, for the convenience of passengers, Defence Minister A K Antony said today.
Talking to newspersons here, he said Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had taken personal interest in the matter and issued necessary instructions to the Civil Aviation Ministry to meet the long pending demand of the Malabar region.
He would exert pressure on the Ministry concerned in this regard, he added.
On the Kannur airport, Mr Antony said the Defence Ministry had issued no objection certificate for the project, work on which was expected to start soon.
The Government had granted permit to the Jet Airlines to start services to select West Asian destinations from Karippur from January next, he said.
