Manipuri dancer gets ''Kalakiran'' award from CM

Mumbai, Nov 12 (UNI) Manipuri danseuse Bimbavati Devi was awarded the ''Aditya Vikram Birla Kalakiran Award'' by the Sangeet Kala Kendra here today.

Presenting the award to Bimbavati Devi, Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh praised the Kendra for recognizing and honouring artistes from far-away places like Manipur.

The Kalakiran award is presented by the Kendra to artistes, who show an immense promise in their field.

A visibly emotional Bimbavati said ''I don't have enough words to express my emotions.'' Bimbavati Devi, daughter of Kalavati Devi and Guru Bipen Singh, is an outstanding exponent of Manipuri dance and the Manipuri martial arts- ''Thang Ta''. She has completed her MA in Manipuri Dance and is also persuing her Phd in the same subject.
