KOA Awards for 2007 announced

Bangalore, Nov 12 (UNI) Karnataka Olymic Association today annoounced KOA Awards for 2007 to 20 sports personalities.

The Awardees included 15 sports persons, two Sports Journalists, Coach, Refree and sports administrator, KOA president K Govinda Raj announed here at a press conference.

List of Sportspersons Awarded included Bronze medal winner in Bendigo Junior Commonnwealth Games C M Kavya Muthanna (Athletics), L Kruthika (Basketball), Ashwini Ponnappa (Badminton), N Lokesh (Cycling), N bindu (Fencing), B V Chethan Kumar (Football), Anup Anthony (Hockey), S Premnath (Handball), M Srinivas (Kho-Kho), M Rajesh (Shooting), K Lohith Kumar (Taekwondo), J P Arjun (Swimming), Somnath S Girigoud (Volleyball).

The Hindu (Bangalore) Sports Chief Reporter Kalyan N Ashok and The Indian Express (Bangalore) Sports Chief Reporter S S Shreekumar were awarded 'Sports Journalist' awards.

National Swimming Coach S Pradeep Kumar was awarded KOA Coach Award, while Award for Referee was bagged by International Referee (Volleyball) P Margalingam.

Other Awardees included A William Joseph (sports Promoter), Veteran Olympian (Football) Varadaraj and veteran Sports Administrator B N Shankarnarayan.

The Awards to be presented on November 14, carries cash Rs 10000 and citation.

Mr Govindraj said that there was good response from the School children for the painting competation conducted by the KOA for the first time and the winners will also be presented with cash prize and Gift hampers on Children's Day during the Award function.

He said that the State government has sanctioned Rs 1.67 lakhs for conducting State Olympics in District places. To begin with the event would be held in Raichur and Gulbarga in January 2008.
