IIP drops to 6.4% for September on strong rupee, high interest rates

New Delhi, Nov 12 (UNI) India's industrial output in September grew by 6.4 per cent from a year earlier, dropping from the previous month's 10.7, amidst a stronger rupee and monetary policy tightening which has had an impact on interest rate The Quick Estimates of Index of Industrial Production (IIP) with base 1993-94 for the month of September 2007, released by the Central Statistical Organisation of the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation showed the General Index stands at 259.1, which is 6.4 per cent higher as compared to the level in the month of September 2006.

The cumulative growth for the period April-September 2007-08 stands at 9.2 per cent over the corresponding period of the pervious year.
