Shimla, Nov 12 (UNI) Cricketer-turned-politician Navjot Singh Sidhu today criticised the state Congress Government for allowing the setting up of hydel projects in Kinnuar district of Himachal Pradesh, saying that they are destroying the state's ecology.
Addressing public rallies at Rekong Peo and Udaipur, he said the hydel projects being set up in the district would permanently destroy its ecology and directly affect the lives of the local people.
Mr Sidhu said the state government that had ordered baton charge and police firing on the peaceful demonstrators would be made to pay for its actions.
Referring to widespread corruption in the state, he said the party whose ''chief minister was neck-deep in corruption had no moral right to point fingers at others''.
Meanwhile, BJP candidate in Kinnuar district Tejwant Singh Negi today claimed that former district panchayat president Dharam Singh Negi, besides several others, today resigned from the Congress and joined the BJP.
