Chandigarh, Nov 12 (UNI) A three-member delegation from Haryana, led by Minister of State for Tourism Kiran Choudhry, is participating in the WTM (World Travel Market) which began in London today.
Speaking on the inaugural day, Ms Kiran Choudhry said Haryana's tourism infrastructure had developed in a big way in a short span of time. The concept of developing special economic zones (SEZs) had been introduced for overall economic development of every section of society in the state, an official release here said.
She said simplification in the rules and regulations had enabled greater foreign investment in the state.
''New investment opportunities in the tourism sector have been visualised in the new tourism policy being pursued by the state.
The investment opportunities with emphasis on leasing government land on long term basis have been envisaged,'' she said.
The Minister said Haryana pioneered the concept of Highway Tourism and constructed beautiful tourist complexes close to the national highways and some of the major roads passing through the state. Each resort included motels, bars, fast food centres, and conference halls.
Haryana, was also proud of its many lakeside retreats including Sultanpur Lake and Karna Lake. During winter, the Sultanpur Lake witnesses the arrival of migratory birds from Siberia and is particularly popular with the bird-watchers, she added.
Elaborating the efforts being made for tourism promotion, special tourist packages have been launched in association with the Chandigarh Administration, she informed.
To give a glimpse of northern India, a circuit popularly known as North India circuit has also been designed with the help of Indian Government. ''Tourists can have a night and two days' trip from Delhi and can find the best heritage, historical properties, adventure alongwith modern architecture of Chandigarh and enjoy the mountains as well,'' she said.
To project North India as a tourist destination, a joint stall had been put up by Haryana Tourism and Chandigarh Tourism at the Indian Pavilion at the WTM.
The WTM is one of the premier international travel related events, which provides an effective platform for networking and meetings of the executives and leaders from all segments of the Tourism Industry.
It also provides an opportunity for showcasing and sourcing new products and services and to learn about the latest international trends and patterns affecting tourism in various regions.
