Chennai, Nov 12: The city police have registered a case against TNCC President M Krishnaswamy's son Dr K Vishnuprasad, MLA, and 18 other Congressmen and arrested two functionaries in connection with yesterday attack on State Youth Congress chief Mayura S Jayakumar at the party headquarters here.

Police said the case was registered based on a complaint lodged by Mr Jayakumar, under various sections of the IPC for attempt to murder, conspiracy and unlawful assembly.

South Central Youth Congress Secretary Saidai Williams and his aide Mohan were arrested last night. Four special police teams have been formed to nab the culprits, police said.

Meanwhile, Dr Vishnuprasad claimed that the case was politically motivated and that his name was included as the prime accused in the complaint only later under ''political pressure''.

He also claimed that a group belonging to a rival faction tried to attack him and he escaped unhurt because of the heavy police presence.

Mr Jayakumar, a staunch loyalist of Union Minister G K Vasan, was attacked by a gang at Satyamurthi Bhavan, the party headquarters, yesterday when the CLP meeting was on in the campus. The attack was said to be a fallout of Mr Jayakumar sacking six district Youth Congress Presidents recently.
