Dubai, Nov 12 (UNI) Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), ranked 58th among the top defence majors worldwide is kicking off initiatives to boost defence exports up from the current annual value of 15 million dollars to 100 million in the next two years.
''We are targetting annual defence exports worth 100 million dollars in two years, widening the existing customer base ranging from Hong Kong to Brazil,'' company Assistant General Manager, International Marketing C N Sreenivasan told UNI.
''Exports play a key role in BEL's strategic perspective. The ranges of products and services exported have been increasing over the years. A number of international companies are using the facilities at BEL for contract manufacturing,'' he said on the sidelines of the Dubai Air Show today.
BEL has been adjudged the first rank among medium sized Aerospace / Defence companies worldwide for two consecutive years (2004 and 2005) by the McGraw Hill publication 'Aviation Week and Space Technology,' he said.
Mr Sreenivasan said the main items of exports are in Defence Communication equipment and spare parts, radars and subsystems, contract manufacturing and telecom and satellite communication systems.
''We have exported to countries like Botswana, Egypt, South Africa, Turkey, Israel, Hong Kong and UAE'' he said.
BEL, is a one billion dollar turnover company under the defence ministry and is participating in Dubai Air Show for the first time as it will give an opportunity to introduce the company to other international players like Raytheon, BAE Systems, Northrop Grumman, Goodrich which are also attending the Dubai Air Show.
