Sultanpur, Nov 11 (UNI) Efforts are underway to trace the body of Shashi, who went missing under mysterious circumstances from Faizabad on October 22, from the river Gomti here.

On instructions of the Uttar Pradesh DGP Vikram Singh, all circle officers today laid down nets in the river at their respective areas to fish out the victim's body, but of no avail.

Vijay Sen Yadav, driver of State Food Processing Minister Anand Sen Yadav who is also said to be his close relative was allegedly involved in the kidnapping and murder of Shashi, an LLB (IIIrd year) student of Saket Degree College in Faizabad.

In his statement to the police, Vijay confesseded that he had relationships with the girl but she committed suicide by jumping in river Gomti.

On October 31, Vijay had surrendered following the charges against him.

The accused is changing statements, leaving everyone baffled.

At times, he says, Shashi committed suicide by jumping into the river Gomti in Sultanpur district and at times he confesses to the crime, saying he pushed her off the river.

State Minister Anand Sen Yadav had resigned from the Mayawati cabinet on Tuesday after the victim's father had set allegations upon him.

The BSP government had on November 6 recommended a CBI probe into kidnapping and murder of the Dalit girl student.

Interestingly, when the Mayawati cabinet had taken oath of office and secrecy in May, 2007, Mr Yadav could not be sworn in as a minister as he was behind bars in a murder case. He took oath at a later date.

His father Mitra Sen Yadav, an MP, was allegedly involved in a case of human trafficking.
