Indira Gandhi statue to be erected on Nov 19
Hyderabad, Nov 11 (UNI) A 12-feet statue of late prime minister Indira Gandhi would be erected at the hi-tech city at Madhapur on November 19 on the occasion of her 90th birth anniversary.
Addressing a press conference here today, the Senior Congress leaders M Sasidhar Reddy and P Janardhana Reddy informed that Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy, Congresss Working committee members, Incharge party affairs Andhra Pradesh, Veerappa Moily, AICC Secretary Iqbal Singh and a large number of party leaders and workers would attend the function.
They said the government had decided to erect the statue as per their request and as a mark of respect to the great leader, who always strove for the welfare of the downtrodden and all sections of the society.
They said there was a proposal to develop the Timmidkunta lake, opposite the place of the proposed statue, as a tourist spot and to protect the water bodies there. The proposal would be sent to the Government for its consideration.
They said the Chief Minister said the government would erect another 18-feet statue of Indira Gandhi near the necklace road in the heart of the city.
