Engine and seven bogies of Ranchi-Benaras Exp derailed

Latehar, Nov 11 (UNI) Seven bogies and the engine of the Ranchi-Benaras down Express derailed between Chetar and Richughuta stations under the South Eastern Railway last night in this district of Jharkhand.

Senior Railway officials, present at the site of accident, said here today that no one was injured in the accident.

The accident occurred at around 2230 hrs yesterday, GRM (Dhanbad Division) Amrish Gupta, who rushed to the spot, told reporters here, adding that about 250-metre stretch of the railway track was damaged following the derailment.

Mr Gupta said the tracks might have been damaged by some anti-social elements planning to loot the passengers.

''In this respect, we are having talks with the state government for safety of the railway passengers,'' he said.

Meanwhile, restoration work was going on as traffic on the up-line had already been resumed and the down-line was expected to be operational by tonight, the sources said.

Besides, General Manager, Dhanbad Division M K Singh, the Senior General Manager and other senior railway officials were constantly monitoring restoration of the traffic.
