Patna, Nov 11 (UNI) Desri, a sleeping hamlet of Vaishali district, got the prestigious award of Chief Minister Samagra Siksha Puraskar for efforts to promote education.
Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar today distributed the award in a function to the Desri block chief, block education extension officer and the district education officer for maximum enrolment of students and for ensuring their presence in the schools every day.
The award was given on the occasion of education day being celebrated in the state to mark the birth anniversary of the first education minister of the country, Maulana Abdul Kalam Azad.
While addressing the gathering during the award distribution ceremony, Mr Kumar said that following suggestions of noted surgeon of Bihar Dr A A Hai, the state government has decided to observe the day as 'education day'.
He announced to celebrate the occasion on a larger scale from the next year.
On this occasion, Mr Kumar highlighted the contributions of Maulana Azad in the field of education and admitted the educational backwardness was the major cause for the backwardness of Bihar. He reiterated his committments for educational upliftment saying that the government had taken several measures to educate the people of the state.
