CPI(M) party chief reacts to judicial remand of 5 party activists

Nandigram, Nov 11 (UNI) The Midnapore Sub-Divisional Judicial Magistrate today sent five West Midnapore CPI(M) district committee members to 14 days judicial custody.

Reacting to the judgement, CPI(M) party chief Deepak Sarkar said they were innocent.

Mr Sarkar in a statement said,'' They had gone for a pleasure trip to Digha'', near here. While returning these injured persons and decided to take them to the hospital.

''However, the Trinamool Congress activists ghreaoed their vehicle, beat them up and took them to the police station,'' he alleged.

He also alleged that the police was partisan and arrested the district committee members.

The Trinamool Congress and Congress supporters had obstructed four vehicles, carrying ten CPI(M) West Midnapore district committee members, along with three injured BUPC supporters, last night near Egra Girls' School here.

The injured persons were allegedly abducted by CPI(M) activists and they were being transported to Khejuri.

The district committee members, included Sukur Ali and Tapan Ghosh, who were wanted by the CBI since 2000 in the Choto Anagaria murder cases.
